Agnès and Franck want to thank each and every one of you. Those who stayed one night on the way to the Mediterranean, those who pitched a tent under the trees for three weeks, the hikers, the cyclists, the motorhome travellers, the families who came back for a second year. You made this season.

What so many of you told us, and what touches us most: you appreciated the natural, quiet character of Camping des Deux Séquoias. No swimming pool, no tannoy, no forced entertainment. Trees, grass, a river at the foot of the site, and the silence of the Larzac once evening comes. That is exactly what we set out to offer, and it is what we will keep.

The campsite will continue to evolve for our guests' enjoyment — we have plans for the coming seasons — but it will keep its natural, quiet character. That is our commitment, and it will not change.

🌡️ Here, the Nights Are Cool

This is the point that comes back in your feedback every summer, and it bears repeating. Camping des Deux Séquoias sits at 500 metres altitude, beside the Dourbie, on the foothills of the Larzac. Even during heatwaves, the temperature drops sharply once the sun has set.

While the coast swelters at 28 °C in the middle of the night, here you sleep under a duvet. For those under canvas as much as for those travelling by motorhome, that night-time coolness changes everything: it is a night's sleep gained, every evening.

💦 The Cooling-Off Activities of the Season

During the hottest spells, many of you used our information sheet "What to do to cool off?", available at reception. Here is what it suggests, and what so many of you tried:

River swimming — The Dourbie runs at the foot of the campsite. Information sheets on the best swimming spots are handed out at reception. It is the simplest way to cool off, and the most appreciated.

The outdoor swimming pool in Nant — The village's inter-communal pool, 1 km from the campsite. Reachable on foot.

The Roquefort cellars — 35 minutes by car. The most impressive is Roquefort Société. Bring a jumper: the ageing cellars are at 8 to 10 °C, all year round.

The Bramabiau abyss — 40 minutes away. Bring walking shoes and a jumper. Swimming is possible in the Lac du Bonheur, and there is a restaurant on site.

The Dargilan cave — 45 minutes away, at the village of Meyrueis, beside the Jonte. The "pink cave", cool even at the height of summer.

Mont Aigoual — 50 minutes away. Its summit rises to 1,565 metres, the highest point in the Gard and one of the highest in the Cévennes. A walk in the Cévennes forest, a visit to the meteorological observatory, a bar and restaurant on site. The air there is always cooler than in the valley.

Saint-Michel church — 1 km away. A cool, quiet stop a few minutes from the campsite.

🏘️ Nant, Our Village, 1 km from the Campsite

Nant (12230) is a medieval village of character, nicknamed the "Garden of Aveyron". It is one kilometre from the campsite, reachable on foot, and it has plenty to surprise you.

Its shops — A convenience store, a supermarket, a bakery, a delicatessen, local producers. You will find everything you need for a stay without having to drive down to Millau.

Its restaurants and bars — The village has numerous restaurants and bars, with shaded terraces to settle into at the end of the day. This is real village life, not a seasonal front.

Its canals — This is the curiosity that surprises our guests most. Irrigation channels, the béals, run through the village and its surroundings, lined with old stone and small bridges. Some see a hint of Venice in miniature. Above all they bear witness to a long history of water management, which you can follow along the 3 km interpretation trail devoted to the village's relationship with water.

Its heritage — The Saint-Pierre abbey church, a gem of 11th- and 12th-century Romanesque art. The covered market hall and its arcades. The old bridge. The Chapelle des Pénitents, which houses a permanent exhibition on the mills. The Parc du Claux, with a secure playground for children aged 2 to 10.

Its market — Every Tuesday morning, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the village square. And in summer, night markets bring the evenings to life: a chance to taste the produce of the Larzac and Aveyron in the cool of the day.

⛪ A Region Steeped in History: Monks and Templars

Southern Aveyron is a land of long history. It begins here with the monks: Nant grew up around a Benedictine monastery in the 10th century. It was they who drained the valley marshes, dug the canals, and turned this land into the "Garden of Aveyron".

Then came the Templars, in the 12th century. The Order settled on the Larzac plateau, developed a prosperous agriculture there and built commanderies and fortified villages. When the Order was dissolved in 1312, the Hospitallers took over the lands and strengthened the defences. The ramparts you see today date largely from that period.

This old stone is everywhere around the campsite, and it can all be visited in a day.

🏰 The Beautiful Villages Around the Campsite

La Couvertoirade — A fully fortified village, 15th-century ramparts, a Templar castle, lanes and craftsmen's workshops. About 40 minutes away.

La Cavalerie — A commandery founded in 1154, with well-preserved ramparts and old houses on the causse.

Sainte-Eulalie-de-Cernon — The Larzac's principal commandery, with its museum and large medieval square, at the bottom of a green valley.

Cantobre — A medieval village clinging to a rocky spur above the Dourbie, about twelve kilometres away. One of the finest viewpoints in the area.

Le Viala-du-Pas-de-Jaux — Its refuge tower dominates the Larzac plateau.

Nant — Our village, 1 km away. It has nothing to envy the others.

🚴 Things to Do in the Region

Beyond cooling off, the Larzac and the Dourbie valley offer enough to fill a whole stay:

🚲 The Larzac rail-bike, departing from Sainte-Eulalie-de-Cernon — a family outing along a former railway line, tunnels included. 🌙 Night markets in Nant and neighbouring villages, in season. 🧗 Via ferrata on the limestone cliffs of the surrounding gorges, with professional guides. 🛶 Canoeing and kayaking on the Dourbie and the Tarn, ten minutes from the launch points. 💧 Canyoning, for the more adventurous, in the area's canyons. 🥾 Hiking on the GR® 71 and the causse trails, starting from the campsite. 🎣 Brown trout fishing, in first-category waters.

🌄 Wild Landscapes: the Roc Nantais and the Spirit of the Larzac

There is one thing you cannot put in a brochure: the impression the Larzac makes the first time you drive up onto it. A vast limestone plateau, almost empty, swept by the wind, where you meet more sheep than cars. Lavognes, those paved watering ponds where the flocks come to drink. Dry-stone walls running for kilometres. Isolated sheepfolds.

Above Nant, the Roc Nantais dominates the valley. From up there you understand the geography of the country: the green, cultivated valley below, the arid, mineral causse above. That contrast is what gives this corner of Aveyron all its character.

That is the spirit we try to preserve at the campsite: nature, quiet, and nothing superfluous.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

When does Camping des Deux Séquoias close and reopen? The campsite closes on 30 September. Reopening is planned for around 1 June the following year, with the final dates confirmed over the winter.

Is it hot at night at the campsite in summer? No. The campsite is at 500 metres altitude beside the Dourbie: even during heatwaves, the nights stay cool. It is one of the things our guests appreciate most.

What is there to do around Nant when it is very hot? Are there shops in Nant? Yes. The medieval village of Nant, 1 km from the campsite, has a convenience store, a supermarket, a bakery, a delicatessen, several restaurants and bars, and a market every Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Will the campsite change in the coming years? The campsite will continue to evolve for its guests' enjoyment, but it will keep its natural, quiet character: no swimming pool, no tannoy entertainment.
